FAQ
How do I change the emergency number in my app?
Simply—go to your iPhone home screen and tap on 'Settings'.
Scroll to the bottom of the 'Settings' list and tap on the app name (e.g. First Aid,
Resuscitate, MediProfiles). Then—tap on 'Emergency Number', enter your
new number and tap 'Done'.
Why did St John choose to develop apps on the Apple iOS over the Android OS?
At the time of production it was identified that Apple had a much greater market share than Android. To date, Apple have remained the growth leader in the smartphone market. St John Ambulance made the decision to develop First Aid apps for the iOS platform, as it would reach the greatest number of people in Australia.
St John Ambulance Australia recognise the increasing user base of the Android OS and one day hope to expand it’s First Aid applications across other smartphone platforms.
Will St John release the apps on the Android OS?
Yes. We did. Thank you to all the customers who requested the St John iPhone app for the Android platform. It’s here.
Why is the Resuscitate app not free?
St John Ambulance Australia is a self-funded charitable organisation. To enable St John Ambulance Australia to continue it’s charitable work, projects undertaken by the organisation must be sustainable. To help cover the substantial costs involved in developing and maintaining the apps, St John Ambulance Australia have priced Resuscitate at $3.49 AUD. First Aid is made available as a free download.
I have a comment/question/concern regarding the St John apps. How do I contact St John?
Please feel free to contact the St John Ambulance Australia National Office for any further information at enquiries@stjohn.org.au or phone 02 6295 3777.
MediProfiles
Does St John keep a copy of my personal medical data?
No, all of your data is stored locally on your device. St John will never pull your personal medical data from your device.
How do I delete a profile from my MediProfiles app?
In the list view, simply swipe your finger from left to right over the name of the profile you wish to delete and tap the red ‘delete’ button. This will delete the profile from your device only. It cannot be retrieved.
Resuscitate
Why is the green light in my Resuscitate app only illuminated sometimes?
The green light represents the Public Access Defibrillator (PAD) proximity sensor. The green light will only illuminate when your iPhone is within 1km of a St John Ambulance PAD.
I know of a nearby defibrillator that is not listed in my Resuscitate app. why is that?
Not all defibrillators are necessarily given PAD status. For a defibrillator to be given PAD status it first must
meet a set of qualifiers. For example a defibrillator must be easily accessible by a member of the public.
If you know of a defibrillator that could qualify for PAD status please let us know. projects@stjohn.org.au
First Aid
Why doesn't the First Aid app contain all of the topics covered in a St John First Aid course?
The St John First Aid app was specifically developed as a refresher tool for people who had already completed some form of First Aid training. The First Aid app content is derived from St John’s Emergency First Aid: A quick guide (5/2009), of which 13 topics were selected to be written into the First Aid app. These topics were identified as the most common life-threatening conditions that required immediate First Aid intervention.
The First Aid app is not in-depth enough. why?
First aid is not complicated, many first aid procedures are common sense e.g. cool a burn with water. Although many people still lack the confidence to give life saving first aid in an emergency, even when they are trained. To help combat this, St John Ambulance Australia have developed the First Aid app. First Aid includes simple, quick and clear instructions to give trained rescuers the confidence to respond to a multitude of emergencies, without over complicating the matter.
